Is a Rabbit Right for Your Home?
Rabbits are clever, affectionate and quiet, and PDSA says they live about 7 to 10 years on average. They are a real commitment, so here is the honest picture:
- They need space. The RSPCA’s minimum is 3 x 2 x 1 metres for two medium-sized rabbits, and a rabbit-proofed room is the easy way to give it. A small cage on its own is not enough.
- They chew. Wires, skirting boards and charger cables need covering before a rabbit roams.
- They feel the heat. Rabbits overheat easily, so they need a cool room in Delhi NCR summers.
- They are gentle, not cuddly. Most rabbits prefer you sitting on the floor with them to being carried around.
If that sounds like a lot, a pair of guinea pigs may suit you better. Our care guides compare guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters side by side, and the rabbit care guide covers food, space and summer care.
Set Up Before Your Bunny Arrives
- A safe base with a solid floor in a cool room, and a room or run to roam in. Our pens and cages in cages and habitats make a base or play area; they are smaller than the full space a rabbit needs.
- A litter tray filled with paper bedding, with hay at one end: rabbits like to eat and toilet in the same place.
- Unlimited hay from The Hay Pantry, a heavy water bowl and a hideout.
- Covers for cables in the room where your rabbit will run.
The rabbit cage and pen guide has the full space plan, what do rabbits eat has the diet chart, and rabbit price in India adds up the cost. Choosing? See how to choose a healthy rabbit, or compare rabbits with other pets in guinea pig vs rabbit vs hamster.
Rabbits in Gurugram Summers
The RSPCA puts the ideal temperature for a rabbit at 10 to 20°C and says rabbits are vulnerable to heatstroke. From April to September keep them indoors in a cool room, never on a balcony or terrace. A ceramic tile to lie on and a frozen water bottle wrapped in a cloth help on very hot days. If your rabbit lies flat, breathes fast through an open mouth or has hot ears and stops eating, move it somewhere cool and call a vet at once.
Delivery
We bring your rabbit ourselves in a ventilated carrier, on your area’s delivery day, across Gurugram and Delhi NCR, and delivery is free. Pets are booked with 5% by UPI; the rest you pay on delivery. Travelling later? Rabbits can stay at our farm: see guinea pig and rabbit boarding.
Rabbit Questions
What is a rabbit’s price in Gurgaon?
Today’s price is on this page, taken straight from our shop. Colours and ages change from batch to batch, so message us to see who is here now.
Can a rabbit live in a flat?
Yes, if it has a rabbit-proofed room or a large pen, free running every day and a cool place in summer. Many rabbits in Gurugram live happily in flats.
What do rabbits eat?
Mostly hay, and lots of it, every day. Add a big handful of washed leafy greens such as coriander and lettuce morning and evening, and a small measured portion of pellets. Carrots and fruit are treats, not meals.
Can rabbits handle Delhi summers?
Only indoors in a cool room. Rabbits overheat easily, so keep the room as cool as you can, close to the RSPCA’s ideal of 10 to 20°C, away from balconies, with fresh water always available.
One rabbit or two?
Rabbits love company, and a bonded pair is happier than a single rabbit. Pairs should be neutered so they don’t fight or have babies; ask us and we will explain how.
Do you deliver rabbits to Delhi?
Yes. We deliver across Delhi NCR, including Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, on your area’s delivery day, and delivery is free. Pets are booked with 5% by UPI; the rest you pay on delivery.
